While training for my fourth Marathon during the winter months, I figured I would need to find some jogging/running routes near where I worked. Since we are located along the legendary Boston Marathon route, it makes it easy to share the best route around!

Red Sox Day Games

There is nothing better than a 1:00PM baseball game. Sun, beers, and brats. It’s America’s pastime! It’s a bit of a shame that they don’t get scheduled as often as they used to. It wasn’t long ago that Wrigley Field in Chicago’s North Side didn’t even have lights. Times have changed but if you are lucky you can snag tix to a Saturday matinee at Fenway. If you do, here are a few tips from Lenox Hotel in Boston.

Freedom Trail

Whether you are joining us for a day or a whole week, a trip along the Freedom Trail in Downtown Boston is one of our favorite activities to recommend! Covering 2.5 miles, the Freedom Trail is marked throughout our city with double-lined red bricks, guiding you to 16 points of interest that contributed to the American Revolution over 200 years ago!

Explore Charles Street!

Charles Street is Beacon Hill’s bustling boutique center, where every shop invites you in to see how shopping for clothes, getting a haircut, or grabbing a cup of coffee can be an afternoon experience rather than an errand. The four blocks between Longfellow Bridge and the Beacon Hill Hotel and Bistro in Boston house seventeen restaurants and bars, fifteen clothing boutiques, ten beauty salons, a gourmet grocer, a chocolatier, and specialty nut store. Charles Street’s advantage over Newbury is it compact historical setting. The eclectic brick neighborhood encourages local and international artisans to choose charming Beacon Hill for their stories.

Biking Through Boston

Boston is relatively small and easy to get around, and one of my favorite ways to explore the city is by bicycle. Even if you don’t have a bike, The Blue Bikes (formerly known as Hubway) bikeshare program lets you rent a bike and is a fun way to experience the city and all it has to offer. With inexpensive rentals and bike stations located all over the city, you can start and stop basically anywhere. Here is a bike tour you can follow with some of my favorite sights, especially for biking! Before you go, don’t forget to borrow one of our complimentary Bern helmets from the front desk…safety first!

An Everett Adventure!

Some might say “when it rains, it pours”, but that wasn’t our case when a fun day trip turned into a random brewery crawl!

It was a rainy Saturday morning, when we were on our way to check out Night Shift Brewing in Everett, not far from The Lenox Hotel. Who says you have to wait until 5 p.m. to enjoy a beverage? Before we knew it, our rainy afternoon of relaxing and checking out one brewery turned into a day of beer and spirit testing! Upon arriving, we stumbled upon a new area, The Fermentation District. This up-and-coming area for craft breweries and distilleries was so much fun to explore.

Shop…’Til You Drop!

As far as I’m concerned, the Back Bay and Beacon Hill are the best places to shop in Boston! Offering a wide selection of both designer shops (in Copley Place or Newbury Street), as well as boutique stores with eclectic clothing, crafts and jewelry along both Newbury and Charles Street in Beacon Hill. There’s definitely something for everyone on your shopping list!

I love taking a break and sitting with a cup of coffee to people watch – there are so many cafes and restaurants to visit. Below are a few of my favorite spots to visit in downtown Boston within walking distance of The Lenox Hotel.

Getting There, Getting Around

Getting to Nantucket is difficult by nature. If it was easy, it wouldn’t be as special. Remember that as you’re dragging your luggage over the stone streets behind 6 other families who are going to get cabs before you. If you are planning on bringing a car – you’re too late. Yep, even for that day. That one too. There is only one company that runs ferries for cars and they book up early. You can go midweek easier than the weekends, but it is tough.

Fall Foliage Route from Boston’s Back Bay

While we have some great fall foliage right in Boston at the Public Gardens, you can’t beat the views of rolling hills and quaint country towns decked out in varying hues of red, orange, and yellow. We’ve put together a day trip right in Massachusetts that not only takes you for a great drive amongst changing leaves, but also brings you to some beautiful towns that are fun to visit year-round. Whether you follow this route exactly or use it as inspiration for towns and places to visit, you’re sure to have a great time.

Harvard Square is only a short “T” or Uber ride across the Charles River from The Lenox Hotel – whether you’d like to visit for a few hours or make a full day of it. When I think of Harvard Square, the first thing that comes to mind is all the famous people that have walked down these cobbled streets from presidents to actors to CEO’s of some the largest companies in the world. It is also adjacent to Harvard University and is Cambridge’s oldest neighborhood.

I love finding a place to sit with a cup of coffee to people watch. Then take in some of the eclectic boutiques, sidewalk cafes, bookstores, and the amazing restaurants. Below are a few of my favorite spots to visit!

Ogunquit Wanderings

Discover why Ogunquit, Maine is named “Beautiful Place by the Sea”! A charming seaside town located north of The Lenox Hotel & Boston in Seacoast Maine – is most famous for its 3.5 miles of beautiful white sandy beach, which has been named one of the Top 25 Beaches in the US on TripAdvisor. An old-fashioned trolley system links the beach to the center and to Perkins Cove, as well as to nearby shops, art galleries and a myriad of dining options. During the summer season especially, Ogunquit is an amazing destination for visitors looking to enjoy the outdoors – kayaking, walking, running and biking are all popular.

Walk to the Game from our Hotel Near Fenway

The wait is over! After a long winter, baseball season is finally here! I can’t think of a better way to celebrate America’s pastime than spending a day at the ballgame at the greatest ball park in the country, Fenway Park.
